comment How do I increase the resize margin on windows?
One cannot claim that usability is a priority if this fiddly, annoying, difficult to use default is being kept just to satisfy some subjective design aesthetic.

I don't remotely feel like it's a major drawback. The difference is subjective, and could easily be preferable with wider borders. Meanwhile the annoyance and number of person-hours lost fiddling with this ridiculous issue on all levels is immense.

comment SSH asks for password
setting home and .ssh permissions to 750 don't fix this for me. I still can't "ssh localhost" without being asked for a password. I'd really like to so that I can use a Fabric script which configures servers to set up my local dev/test environment.

It works! Nice one @saiarcot895, thanks! Do you want to cut and paste this into an answer for the credit? FWIW, I've been dying to Skype with my little boy who's out of the country for the week, so this is really really valuable for me. Thanks!

@saiarcot895 output appended to the question. Thanks, but I'm not able to decipher that. I'll go read the man page...

comment Skype doesn't start on Ubuntu 12.04 x64
This didn't work for me. I still get the same error on opening Skype. I notice that at no point did my problematic shared lib (libsqlite3.so.0) get reinstalled. I removed skype and reinstalled, same thing. I cannot "apt-get remove libsqlite3.so.0", it says "you have requested an impossible situation ... unmet dependencies. libatk-wrapper-java : Depends: default-jre ..."

comment skype: error while loading shared libraries: libXss.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
This doesn't work for me. Skype fails to find 'libsqlite3.so.0'. apt-file reports this is provided by libsqlite3-0 or libsqlite3-0.dbg. "apt-get install libsqlite3-0" reports it's already installed. "sudo ldconfig" does nothing. Skype still fails.

comment How do I revert Alt-tab behavior to switch between windows on the current workspace?
Ping for the question in nealmcb's comment - I'm also puzzled.

comment What are the packages/libraries I should install before compiling Python from source?
For me, this also omits openssl, which means that after I build python, I can't install setuptools because its installer downloads over https.

Thanks for all of this. The text of your answer says 'no need to install tk dev libraries', but the list includes 'tk-dev'. Am I being dumb?
