comment How can I create a new profile for Gnome terminal via command line?
The question says not using the menu, but using the command-line instead.

comment Command-line to switch between profiles in gnome-terminal
Personally, I had unchecked that preference to disable those keyboard shortcuts, and I'm loathe to re-enable it again, because it prevents Alt-x keypresses from being passed to the application running in the terminal (e.g. there are blog posts suggesting users map 'Alt-h/j/k/l' to select active window within vim) Perhaps the Gnome team had similar thoughts.

comment How can I change the color of my cursor in gnome-terminal?
"pink" doesn't work for me (gnome-terminal with TERM=xterm-256color) but the "#ffcc00" version does.

comment will 32 bit Ubuntu will work fine on 64 bit machine?
Many programs will use more RAM when running as 64 bit, so depending on circumstance, you might find performance is actually worse on 64 bit.

"configure: error: readelf for the host is required for cross builds". Using "locate '*-readelf'" gives only "/usr/bin/x86_64-linux-gnu-readelf". I guess I need to find a package to install that includes i686-linux-gnu-readelf" ?

comment How to disable Alt + `?
(in fact, after using both this answer AND @codenamejames answer, I still couldn't get alt-grave to work as static-switcher prev window. It was still bound to some 'unity switcher prev window on this workspace' action. So I did this answer over again, for every action on the unity plugin switcher's tab's list of keybinds. That seems to have nuked it.)

comment How to disable Alt + `?
This does work for me in 14.04 to stop the default window switcher from using alt-grave. But in order to then use alt-grave for something else (the static window switcher) I also had to use @codenamejames' answer below. Thanks!

comment Why isn't the Alt+` shortcut working on my international keyboard?
I see that this 'Move next' is already 'disabled' by default. So, just to be really explicit, do you mean simply to make sure its 'Enabled' checkbox is unchecked, so that is shows a 'Disabled' button in the list shown in the 'Bindings' tab?

comment vmware-vix vmrun command error: “unable to connect to host … version not found”
This fixed the problem for me. (but unfortunately I didn't have a Workstation license - I'm just using the vagrant plugin which uses a different license. However, my employer stumped up for a workstation license to get me unblocked and everything works fine.)

Worked perfectly for me first time (for a bootable Ubuntu ISO), while other answers on this page could not be made to work.

comment How to create a bootable USB from a .iso file?
Startup Disk Creator reliably crashes for me, both when I try 'Erase Disk', and when I try to create the USB image. Starting it using 'sudo usb-creator-gtk --allow-system-internal', as suggested on related SO threads, does not help. Ubuntu 15.04 Desktop.

comment How do I turn off font pixel antialiasing only in Terminal?
I've created a ~/.fonts.conf containing the second snippet, to disable antialiasing for all uses of a font (Dina, a bitmap font I downloaded). I still see it anti-aliased above certain size. Do I need to reboot or something? I tried running 'fc-cache ~/.fonts', which was quick and silent.

comment pyvenv-3.4 error: returned non-zero exit status 1
Curious. I got here because I am seeing the problem in 15.04. Ah. The last few entries on the lengthy Ubuntu bug you link say one needs to install new package python3-venv, which isn't a dependency of python3, to get the fix.
