comment Do I need to restore iptable rules everytime on boot?
I had to use sudo sh -c '/sbin/iptables-save > /etc/iptables.save' to get around the Permission denied error. Reference

comment Do I need to restore iptable rules everytime on boot?
I get -bash: /etc/iptables_rules: Permission denied on the first command. Which is weird using sudo and all.

comment Start VBoxHeadless VM at startup
Got rid of hohup, still doesn't work. I must be doing something else wrong. Are you sure we're using the same script? Please edit your answer and include your script so i can try it.

@Takkat: no dice. But again, i can get VBoxHeadless working just fine with the command i'm using. It's ONLY not working when i do it in a startup script.

comment how to read init.d script start argument
(+1) The script needs to know automatically from the system... see the quote i placed? It is supposed to be passed in by the system by using (defaults 98 02) but it does not seem to start up on boot.

comment Grub loader problem
Tell you the truth i've always had similar problems trying to install linux and windows on the same hard drive. Except on MACs, because i'm able to use rEFIt which works awesome even on triple boot. Makes it VERY easy. If you do start over, get windows 7, and look over this: lifehacker.com/5403100/…

If it's set to true and it's not commented out (has '#' in front of it) then this is not your answer.

Check my edit... i meant (GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET) make sure it's not commented out and is true. see if that works.

comment Screen is blank after installing unless I boot with the monitor unplugged
Same problem here... when i disconnect the vga monitor and turn on the server it will stop in the GNU GRUB loader. It will not default to the GRUB_DEFAULT. When i plug it in, there it is stuck on the grub boot loader, i have to plug in a keyboard and press 'enter'... weak sauce.
