I am more of an old-school unix guy who knows ksh, vi and awk in and out and was used to configure unix systems by hand.
Had my first Linux installed back in '93 with kernel 0.99, patch level 13 on my 386sx fully equiped with 2 MB RAM. Since then I always had at least one Linux-box around me (DLD, Slackware, SuSE, Debian, Gentoo, Ubuntu...). Anyway, since several years I just take it more or less how it comes - I don't have the time anymore to dive into kernel parameters and meanwhile /etc changed a lot, which I didn't follow in every aspect.
