comment Wacom tablet support in Ubuntu
My Intuos2 tablet has never just worked out of the box on Ubuntu. I got it working on 12.04 with a lot of work. It's broken again on 14.04, and I don't have the time to fight it again.

comment Get the MAC address of a connected, unlabeled, unconfigured, unconfigurable ethernet device?
Wow, thanks for the deep answer! I think each solution belongs in a separate answer though, right? I actually hammered out my own toy packet sniffer for this; waiting for permission to open source it.

The tshark version isn't showing anything... ETH=eth1; read OURMAC </sys/class/net/$ETH/address; sudo tshark -i $ETH -Tfields -e 'ether src not $OURMAC'

I tred a couple variations... ETH=eth1; read OURMAC </sys/class/net/$ETH/address; sudo tcpdump -i $ETH -e "ether src not $OURMAC" still spews stuff other than mac addresses

Also, why tcpdump instead of tshark? Lighter weight? More mature?

Shouldn't there be a MAC address table somewhere in ~anything that uses ethernet? Even if it's managed in the ethernet link layer hardware, seems like it should be exposed by the drivers somehow...

sudo tshark -i eth1 -R bootp is giving me a bunch of "DHCP Discover" lines but no MAC...

Yeah... I'm just burning a lot of time trying to figure out right parameters for tshark to make this happen...

wooow, I'm not sure if that worked, but that syntax you're using in mv will change my life forever.

comment How to make Rhythmbox toggle between pause and play with spacebar?
also, in the time it takes rhythmbox to load, cmus can index your entire library from scratch. use space, tab, and arrow keys to navigate, then the c key is you play/pause button. Don't try to play an aac file, or it will blast static at a deafening volume.
