comment How can I change the hotkey to Firefox's Search Engine field (next to the address bar)
The Keyconfig addon from the answer works. There is also an addon Key config in the official Firefox repo, but this is not the same, and it does not work to solve this problem (at least not in FF 38).

In most recent FF 38, Ctrl+K would open a Firefox default page (no URL, big FF logo with search box). I confirm that it can be changed with the Keyconfig addon linked in the answer, and that Ctrl+K does not do anything after changing this.

comment Can I annotate the screen in Gnome Shell?
There is also miry's PPA, providing packages for Ubuntu 14.04. They work in 14.10 as well if downloaded manually and installed via dpkg -i.

comment What is the best way to configure a Thinkpad's TrackPoint?
Your "Evdev Wheel Emulation Axes" setting uses natural scrolling horizontally, normal scrolling vertically. I guess most want all-natural scrolling (use 7 6 5 4) or all-normal scrolling (use 6 7 4 5).

Yes, it's the same as coasting in the Synaptics driver. See this question on how to configure it.

comment Where is the X.org config file? How do I configure X there?
In Ubuntu, user-added Xorg options should also go into /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ files. You'll have to create that directory first, but it works, and is actually mentioned in Ubuntu's /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/* files.

comment “The following packages have been kept back:” Why and how do I solve it?
In cases where this problem is due to a messup with apt preferences (pinning), I found reinstallation of the kept packages helped me: apt-get install --reinstall <packages>.

comment .bashrc not executed when opening new terminal
So if you have created ~/.bash_profile or ~/.bash_login on your system and want to keep them, but still want ~/.profile and from there ~/.bashrc executed, you can source it from your own ~/.bash_profile or ~/.bash_login with a line containing source "$HOME/.profile". Gives you back the colored output of ls also in login shells!

comment Unable to install Skype on 64bit Ubuntu
Additionally, if you want the sound issue fix also when starting Skype via the Alt+F2 mini-terminal and typing skype, do this: create an executable file /usr/local/bin/skype with first line #!/bin/bash and next line env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 /usr/bin/skype. Make sure with which skype that the skype command now refers to your new file.

comment Skype freeze when trying to realize a call
Reinstalling Skype from Canonical Partner repos did not help you if you start Skype via anything that bypasses the (patched) skype.desktop file. For example, starting via the Alt+F2 mini-terminal. To apply your solution there also, create an executable file /usr/local/bin/skype with first line #!/bin/bash and next line env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 /usr/bin/skype

For removing the Universal Access button, try the Accessibility Remover extension.

comment How do I get the Skype status icon back? (on panel/tray)
For Ubuntu 13.10 and newer, Status Icon Fixer reportedly does not work any more. I use the alternative Top Icons extension for 13.10 and it works well.

comment How to add a Skype indicator?
From Ubuntu 13.04 on, this solution will not work as the support for systray-whitelist was removed (see). You can however install the systray-white PPA's packages to make this solution work again.

comment How to configure GNOME 3 to show icons on desktop
The nautilus -q command just quits nautilus. So afterwards, press Alt+F2, enter nautilus and hit enter to start it again, at which point the desktop icons will become visible (again).
