It's libtiff4 (image file format library). A ton of software depend on it. I can not simply remove and install it.

comment disable password prompt on user switch?
This doesn't work for me. Still password prompt. However, if you choose "Switch User Account" instead, and then select another user from the startup screen, then you gen logged in without password prompt. What is my problem?

comment Ubuntu server unstable performance
Setting swappiness to 20 didn't help. I decided to upgrade to a better server with 384MB of memory. What swappiness do you think I should set there?

@pepoluan, I thought that if you turn 'PasswordAuthentication to 'no', server won't even listen to port 22. Is this correct?

Fair enough. To be on the safe side, I've setup my 2 servers to have access via RSA to one another. So if I loose my private key I will be able to ssh from another server.

If you use ssh keys and turn off password authentication via ssh, do I really need 1,2,3 ?

But, in this case there is no such thing as a server's public key, hence nothing to publish. So, loosing my private key = loosing access to server. Correct?

My /var/log/auth.log has been growing considerably lately. Does an entry like this Mar 27 10:28:43 smartfood sshd[17017]: Failed password for root from 218.15.136.38 port 33119 ssh2 Mar 27 10:28:47 smartfood sshd[17019]: pam_unix(sshd:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=218.15.136.38 user=root indicate of an attack?

As far as I understood from the manual, you generate and store your private key on your machine and upload your public key to a server's authorized_keys file. Is this correct? Or the other way around?

Regarding turnign off password authentication, how do I login to a server if I loose its public key then? (I don't have a phisical access to a server, it is a VPS)
