comment Is there any way to get CVE or USN ids that need to be installed?
Short of looking at the changelog or the actual USNs that are sent out (there's a list you can subscribe to for those), it'll be a bit hard to not see all the updates included in a given package updates.

Check the debian/changelog entry for the package that's being updated. The CVEs / USNs are all listed there under "SECURITY UPDATE" in the changelog entries.

The question you stated the link to has an answer from actionparsnip: "13.10 is prerelease right now so not for new users. Suggest you report a bug and state your case." I suggest you read their full response.

Note: The error data from apt-get suggests that php5-curl is not as up to date as php5/php5-common is. (differing versions)

comment How can i open SDM.pkg and .sdx files on Ubuntu?
Note to everyone: The pairing of SDM.pkg and any .sdx file suggests the usage of Secure Download Manager for MSDNAA, OnTheHub, or DreamSpark downloads of Windows ISOs and software, which are all license-required things. That is the missing information for this question, and I made a note of that here and in my answer.

@Mitch note the question has been reopened per my request, they're using MSDNAA or OnTheHub or DreamSpark to try and get the windows 8 ISOs. Which is the missing information.
