I'm a coder/electro-mechanic living in Vienna, Austria.

I've spent my early years with Windows, but migrated to Linux back in '04 and happy with that.

If I hate on thing more than those damn spammers...it's uncommented downvotes!

comment How to reconfigure graphics (xorg)
Without knowing what the script did, it's pure guessing. But here's mine: Move the xorg.conf (if it exists) and restart the laptop in normal mode. sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf-broken.

comment App to create a Video from an MP3 File and GIF Picture(s)?
@nebukadnezzar: Yes...but I can't understand that sentence. Do you mean that every video you create/export/save is longer then the project itself?

comment What exactly happens when ubuntu recovers from crash?
Ubuntu should recover from those 'sudden' shutoffs without any complications, at least Lucid did. So if your X-Settings are getting reset, it's most likely a problem with the driver or with the XServer itself, only in that case Bulletproof-X should jump in and revert the settings.

Open empathy from the terminal, this might output some messages which could give clou a clue what's going on.

comment Modify Monitor Color Profiles / Settings
@Oscar Godson: Please add this to your question. You might also want to remove the colors tag and replace it with an intel one (I'd do it...but I don't have even closely enough rep :( ).

comment Modify Monitor Color Profiles / Settings
@Oscar Godson: lspci | grep "VGA" should output your graphics-chip. If it does output nothing, please add the complete output of lspci to your question.

comment What exactly happens when ubuntu recovers from crash?
You might wanna track down the problem which crashes the system instead of finding away around recovering methods. If the system is constantly crashing every few hours, I'd suspect a hardware problem or a problem with the used software. Does dmesg output anything of interest, or maybe ~/.xsession-errors?

comment NTFS backup image wont mount
@Znarkus: You could try to move it to a partition from which you can access it in Windows and using something like DaemonTools to mount the image.

comment Nautilus keeps trying to access a folder that doesn't exist
This sounds like something is stuck in your session-start. You could try to clear all automatically starting programs from your session by opening System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications -> Options, close everything, then hit Remember Currently Running Application and logout and in again and see if it is gone.

Knowing the graphics-chip in there would help us a lot...

Something of interest in /var/log/messages (you can use dmesg the output the contents of that log on the terminal)?

comment Contents of my ~/Desktop directory not actually displayed on the desktop
What do you mean with 'lost'? Also, reinstalling ubuntu-desktop won't do you any good, it's just a meta package which does nothing. You might want to reinstall the complete gnome environment: sudo apt-get install --reinstall gdm nautilus gnome-panel. Make also sure that you have selected Gnome as session during login.
