This solution does not work for me. This really should have been added to an existing answer in order to improve it! askubuntu.com/a/18996 as should many of the other suggestions/answers :)

Also the ubuntu forums thread linked too in no way shape or form recommends installing (though it is suggested but with no feedback or confirmation or explanation) the package you suggest is good idea. reading the thread suggests other workarounds and explains why!

Is there a way to merge answers? I feel your answer does not take into consideration what yoyoma2 highlights in that it is NOT recommended to install that package purely for the purposes of preventing dbus messages requesting it. It is a known bug as yoyoma2 highlights. yoyoma2 also explains the "Why? Do I have to react on the dmesg message?" part of the question asked. I can not see how to edit your answer without completely changing it!

comment My computer boots to a black screen, what options do I have to fix it?
The most voted for answer in "Blank screen after installing nvidia restricted driver" needs improved so that it actually answers the question/issue. Reverting back to open source drivers does not answer nor resolve the question/issue that is highlighted.

comment Blank Screen after trying to install nvidia proprietary drivers
The reason the most voted answer at "Blank screen after installing nvidia restricted driver" thread does not work is because it reverts back to xserver-xorg drivers which are default open source drivers. Have commented there to try and get users to improve the existing most voted for answer highlighting that it actually does not answer the question asked. i think/suggest the answers here should be merged to the mentioned thread as this is a duplicate of that thread imo. All ask ubuntu users are encouraged to edit/improve existing answers over providing a new answer.

comment Why recommended driver is different from the latest supported driver
The answer here needs improve/expanded on. askubuntu.com/a/163808 imo it does not fully answer the question. User is asking how to fix proprietary driver install and not only revert back to open source driver!

Similar issue for "recommended driver" being indicated on 14.10 with 6800 gt with 304.125 driver. Givesblack screen even with nomodeset. init messages indicate broken pipe early in boot process. This needs an answer.
