comment NetworkManager tray (nm-applet) is gone after upgrade to 14.04 Trusty
I agree, changing nm-applet.desktop as in your second paragraph is what's worked for me, on multiple machines that I've been upgrading from 13.10 to 14.04, with xfce. Needs a reboot after first editing that file, and there's a few seconds delay each time after logging in before the indicator appears on the bar, but it works.

comment chromium's omnibox has to big font size and spans 100%
I have the opposite problem - with the "Aura" version of Chromium that is in in 14.04, the text in the omnibox is now too tiny (on a large, hi res screen). There doesn't seem to be any way to configure it, since it presumably looks just right on the developer's screen and they can't be bothered thinking that anybody else would want anything different. Haven't been able to find an option to turn off this aura thing either.

comment IPv6 tunnels - any easy way to turn them on and off?
Thank you, that's exactly what I need (with sudo added). With only one network interface before I've never needed to know how to turn on/off a particular interface. Does the job fine.
