It does on mine. But ultimately, it will depend on your video card driver, and also on how buggy your java installation is. Those two factors can fluctuate a lot between two Ubuntu users.

Ok, it works, but I had add an -a argument.

The command ran fine, but I still get the same error when trying to run the program. How do I get the program to use the fake x server?

I'm not saying it doesn't work. I'm asking what the names mean.

comment Customize Gnome-Do's default action order
I really like the second option, though it'll be annoying to do that for each of the scripts, I think I'll go with it.

I'm not so sure about the first part. I've tried running my script over a dozen times and gnome-do still offers to open it for me by default, even though I only opened it once or twice.

Amazing! I had given it up weeks ago. Thank you so much, it does indeed help.

Works... Thanks.

comment Getting a script to run on boot, not on login
I think I wasn't clear. This script will be run on an ubuntu-server, it relies on networking, and on the mounting of a particular partition (which auto-mounts in fstab). Sometimes I turn on the server computer but don't actually login (I just leave it on for when I need to login remotely), so I want this script to be run on every boot without relying on login. That's why I said I want it to be the very last thing tu run but before login.

Thanks, it seems easy enough. This does not rely on which user creates the cronjob right? It runs at the end of boot regardless of logins?

@hhlp: Cool, thanks. But how early will the script run if I use that method? As I mention above, it's best if it's one of the very last things (before login).

@JanC: Yes actually, it needs just about everything you asked (except for X), which is why I'd like it to be the very last thing to be run. There's really no reason to run it earlier either.

That's a creative idea. I think I've got a converter back at home, so I'll try it tomorrow.

comment Why does Google search always count more results in Firefox or Chrome than in Chromium?
One more thing. The URL posted by JanC returns "About 1,290,000 results" when I'm logged in (both in firefox and chromium), but the same URL returns "About 1,450,000 results" when I'm NOT logged in (again, on both).

Let me fix that. Even if you somehow force it to go a global search on both browsers, google might still refine the results differently depending on your cookies. Anything they might use to identify you mattersa lot. It also makes a lot of difference if you're logged in on one browser but not the other, or if one of the browsers uses a different DNS server or a different proxy.

The browser sends a lot more than just a search string. Depending on what cookies you have in each one, google might be defaulting to localized searching in one browser and global searching in the other.

There's really no reason not to try, though. Enable them, if you get some annoying bug just disable them.

Not yet (it is still in alpha after all). Usage is still very easy, there are clear instructions in the download page.
