I use Ubuntu for multiple reasons, and mainly as a back-up to when Windows decides to fail, or I wish to have a USB whose data contents would be best secured (and wish to have a tool to use whenever things go even more wrong) with the ext4 filesystem.

I have a moderate degree of knowledge about Ubuntu, but I will not claim any sort of mastery.

I also program a little in Python whenever I feel up to it, and frequently play Minecraft on the server "The Canadian Sandbox" (whose webpage is linked on my profile somewhere).

Try restoring the Ubuntu directory, then following the answer's advice. Edited this comment after a re-read. ><;

Sorry about that, and thanks. I was posing it as an if, though, because I'm not sure if that's the answer they're looking for, in particular.

@Sergey Thanks for the clarification. I haven't had to use wget yet, but I would have to, in the future.

Grab Synaptic Package Manager, and uninstall/re-install Ubuntu Software Center? That's the best advice I can offer, but it's not a firm answer.

Beat me to the punch. Dang. But yeah, it's wget [whatever web address]. If you want to choose the location, type cd [local location on your computer.] EXAMPLE: cd /home/omio/Desktop/ | wget http://thecanadiantestbox.x10.mx/CC.zip

Valid question for a workplace environment where the only person able to invoke sudo will likely never log on. =]

comment how to add ICQ account to empathy?
There are ways, in Pidgin's options, but please don't come after me if I'm wrong - I'm not 100% here, so I couldn't offer an actual answer. All I'm suggesting is technically a work-around anyways. I use many IM protocols together, which is why I suggested Pidgin.

I always used a different messenger called "Pidgin". It offers much more account flexibility.

GUI = Guided User Interface. Synaptic Package Manager is your most likely answer, but no guarantees there.

Grammar, spelling, clarity, fixed a little markup (and my own typo).
