All the information is on the wiki. I suspect these are going to evolve over the next few weeks so I won't copy-paste them here for now. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuTV/Contributing There is now a PPA from WebUpd8's Alin Andrei. It only works for 11.10 and contains a patched unity-2d package as well as the new unity-video-lens package. All you have to ...

No one knows. There is barely any information out there except for the introductory video at http://www.ubuntu.com/tv. The product was unveiled at CES 2012 today, and Canonical is still looking for manufacturers of the product. The company said it would reach stores sometime during 2012, and we really won't know until then. However, Canonical will probably ...

If it has been packaged correctly, by installing UbuntuTV using the deb package from webupd8, you should (in theory) be able to ppa-purge the PPA and this would restore your system. i.e. sudo ppa-purge ppa:nilarimogard/test3 sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-video If you see the following error message sudo: ppa-purge: command not found then install the ...

For now, as January 10th, Ubuntu-tv only runs under unity-2d. You can install it from source following this instructions. Or you can just use a PPA: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/test3 sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install unity-2d sudo apt-get install unity-lens-video Note that this software is in a very early development ...

Open the file $HOME/.config/user-dirs.dirs with an editor. One line looks like: XDG_VIDEOS_DIR="$HOME/Videos" Change the directory Videos to whatever you like and restart your session (log out and login again). Now your default Video-directory is changed.

It's still in its infancy but "Ubuntu TV comes with a box office built right in that gives you access to movie rentals, YouTube, and other online media outlets". So you need to buy a new TV with the Ubuntu hardware in it if you are talking about an actual TV with actually Ubuntu on it. I bet they'll also start making settop boxes since then you can use it in ...

Seems like you have problems with your bzr configurations. I used to have these problems because of a network firewall and I just have to do away with my bzr configurations. You can try these steps and see if it works: mv .bazaar .bazaar.backup/ Doing that would give you a fresh configuration settings for bzr and you can try branching the ubuntu-tv ...

Ubuntu TV is an Unity variant and it's a proof of concept so everything might change. The plan is to stick it into the TV, not another box sitting next to it, with lots of cables and another remote. But for now you can install on PC, more info here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuTV/Contributing And the official page: http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/tv

Quick answer Yes, if you compile it yourself. Why is there no official PPA? The code isn't in a state to run alongside desktop unity, we didn't want to break peoples' desktops we hope to provide a more polished version in a PPA for 12.04 It also uses XBMC as Media Scanner. This is in testing mode currently and is hoped to be included in 12.04 final. I ...

Technically it is possible to run the interface on top of any Desktop environment, since it is based on Unity 2D, but at this point it seems it does not yet work in other Desktop environments. However, it should be a matter of simply "porting" the code to other platforms, as it is based on Qt Quick (AFAIK), and thus rather portable.

Please read the below note first if you are on 12.04! Note: Ubuntu TV is in an "experimental" state for 12.04 right now; install it at your own risk. No currently working (with 12.04) PPA is available, and you must build from source. It only functions on 11.10; it does not fully work on 12.04, and is not designed to. Its current state is in ...

Firstly, UbuntuTV is currently a demonstration product. However, Canonical is a UK-based company with international appeal - the screenshots of the demonstration EPG have UK channel logos in them. The UK is in the process of converting to entirely digital TV broadcasting, so it would be odd for it not to be supported in the finished product. As a UK MythTV ...

According to the CMake documentation, you have two options: Change the uninstall target at the end of CMakeLists.txt. It appears that the target in the existing code may be incorrect, and should read as follows: add_custom_target(uninstall COMMAND ${CMAKE_COMMAND} -P ${CMAKE_CURRENT_BINARY_DIR}/cmake_uninstall.cmake) Run the command ...

Yes. It can be done. But it is not recommended for productive Systems. You can find a complete how-to including a Ubuntu-ppa on this site: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/how-to-install-ubuntu-tv-from-ppa.html Alternatively you can compile it on your own. Instructions for everything can be found in the link.

You seem to have trouble connecting to Launchpad over SSH. Make sure that you have a public SSH key registered on launchpad for which you have the private key available locally and check that Launchpad knows about your username (bzr lp-login <username>). Alternatively, since you're only trying to access a public branch (which doesn't require ...

The current plan for Ubuntu TV is to target a 13.04 release. Ubuntu TV is just a different form factor of Ubuntu Unity, so any Ubuntu installation of 13.04 should be able to become a Ubuntu TV interface (and vice versa). To my knowledge (I don't work for Canonical), there aren't any TVs that will run Ubuntu TV that have been announced, and I think installing ...
