emacs - Is a popular text editor, usually characterized by it's extensibility. Often described as "the extensible, customizable, self-documenting, real-time display editor." Now part of the GNU project, it was originally developed by Richard Stallman in the mid 1970s and development, and ongoing extension, of it continues to this day.
