I've had the same issue on my Studio 1558 since I purchased this thing! It's been defective from day one and Dell's solution is to update the BIOS. Mine is up to date (A12) and it still randomly shuts off with and without the AC plugged in! And yes, it is due to overheating. Someone, who still has a Dell warranty managed to get theirs fixed through Dell ...

Here you can find a script to throttle your CPU frequency based on temperature. You set a max temperature, and if your system goes over that temperature it slows down your CPU(s).

You should find out what wifi card there is in your machine. Since the button is properly hook directly to either the hardware or the kernel module.
To find out what module (driver) your wifi uses you can run the command sudo lshw and find a section looks like this one:

I have dell vostro and although the mouse settings lets me enable two-finger scrolling. It didnot work. I asked twice about this and got to this workaround.
