Xdmcp is the X display manager control protocol; it is a remote desktop protocol in that it allows a user of one desktop to connect to and interact with another desktop.

Since a recent upgrade from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS I can no longer login using XDMCP (ssh -XC is okay).
