PCSX2(playstation 2 emulator) won't work under Ubuntu 11.10 x64. It worked when I was running Ubuntu 11.10 x86 and I heard it worked under (Windows x86 x64) as well.

When I downloaded the pcsx2-0.9.8-r4594-linux.tar.gz I extracted it in the home directorie and run the launch_pcsx2_linux.sh file but when I run it it close immediately when I open GNOME-terminal and typ ./launch_pcsx2_linux.sh I get this error ./pcsx2: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_baseu-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

When I type sudo apt-get install libwxbase2.8-0 it says that is already installed.

I tried running the pcsx2 file directly but it does nothing

PCSX2 in Ubuntu(x86/x64)

A big plus here is, there is a Linux version of PCSX2 so, we don't need to use WINE!

There are 2 ways to install pcsx2 in Ubuntu. one just download it from the pcsx2 site. extract it in your home folder and run the launch_pcsx2_linux.sh(X86 only). here is the pcsx2.desktop file save it in /usr/share/applications/ or in your /home/your username/.local/share/applications/ where it says your username change it to your username.

If that is to much of a hassle for you just add the ppa to your software sources(x86 only). The following are supported: Raring (13.04), Quantal (12.10), Precise (12.04), Oneiric (11.10), Natty (11.04), Maverick (10.10), Lucid (10.04).

ppa:gregory-hainaut/pcsx2.official.ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pcsx2-unstable

and to install it for Ubuntu x86 and x64 bit you can use a ppa to. copy past this in your gnome-terminal

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:micove/console
sudo apt-get update

# dependencies
sudo apt-get install libasound2-dev nvidia-cg-toolkit autoconf x11proto-xf86* glew-utils1.5 joystick

# the main app
sudo apt-get install pcsx2

(if the pcsx2 doesn't work for you try the pcsx2-unstable)one thing you need to do is when your configuring PCSX2 you will get a window that ask for a bios. You will need to provide legal BIOS´es yourself!

Warning without BIOS'es you can't play the games.

The ppa below, created by noobslab.com, can be used by both x86, and amd64 users, For those experiencing issues with the other ppa's, they can try this one out. The following are supported: Raring (13.04),Quantal (12.10).

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/pcsx2
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pcsx2

This video shows PCSX2 in action, in VMware, showing off the x86 version using the gregory-hainaut ppa, And local using the amd64 version using the micove ppa. I didn't start the game cause it didn't work well with my screen-recorder.
