I have configured f-spot to write tags in pictures, so Flickr and other apps would detect tags automatically. When I looked in my Pictures folder, I saw lots of text files along with the photos, even though I have never configured it that way. I have since verified that f-spot is set to write metadata tags to image files(see below), but this isn't happening.

How can I make f-spot write metadata tags to the image files?

Just for the record: rotations are not saved to files either.

For what is worth, this tagging problem does not happen with pictures I import from my cell phone.

This is a feature, not a flaw. Most photo editors/managers default to 'non destructive edits', and only change the original file if you explicitly tell them to. – Tom Brossman Jan 25 '12 at 18:28
That is the point: I have set it to do so. – Alexandre Jan 25 '12 at 18:34
Sorry, maybe I misunderstood. Is your complaint that you set it to write metadata changes, and it wont do this? Or, are you asking why you have to change this default setting in the first place? It's the second question I thought I was answering. – Tom Brossman Jan 25 '12 at 18:40
My point is why would f-spot not write metadata in pictures when I have set it to do so? – Alexandre Jan 25 '12 at 18:43
