I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot on a Dell Studio XPS, but when booting with Ubuntu the fan is quite noisy, much noisier than with Windows 7.

I see in the web that's supposed to be caused by a bug in Ubuntu, I was wondering whether you have a fix to suggest for this.

I have installed Ubuntu on some laptops but didn't have the same problem.

If you have an ati video card, I think you can take a look at this question. If you have an nvidia video card on the dell, try this one.
