What is the “Templates” folder in the home directory for?

I want create different types of files, for exemple: txt, doc, xls, html etc. How can I add templates for this types?

This question is way to fuzzy. Templates? Where? Openoffice/Libreoffice!? Please add in some logic to what this is about. – Rinzwind Jan 23 '12 at 9:21

Assuming that you ask about templates for the default file manager in Ubuntu (Nautilus):

Add the files you want to have as templates to your Templates folder in your home directory. If you create subfolders in that directory, you will get submenues in the Nautilus menu.
