In GNOME 3 the nautilus option "compact layout" is missing.

Compact layout is the function which decrease the space between icons.

I made this image that you have a better impression of this feature. The zoom level is 400% and the localisation is german. compact layout

As you can see this option is very important, when you are working with very similar images (they are from http://marsshooter.org ).

  • First step: compact layout, which doesn't exist in Nautilus 3.2.x (oneiric)
  • Second step: deselect "kompakte Anordnung"
  • Third step: normal layout, which brakes your mouse wheel

I found the considering bug on gnome.org: 656190

I hope this function also important for you, so please rate this comment!

REMEMBER: Your mouse wheel will always love you for that :D

Here can you find the mailing-list about this feature. Removing this feature was a design decision, and should replaced by a non-existing algorithm which detect the optimal space between icons. But that's not satisfactory.

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. For help clarifying this question so that it can be reopened, see the FAQ.

The option is seen here in dconf-editor (org > gnome > nautilus > preferences) & available thru gsettings -

gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences default-folder-viewer compact-view

dconf-editor
