I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my Toshiba satellite about a week ago and it has been randomly freezing. At first it was minor, but then it started to happen more frequently. I attempeted to upgrade to 11.10 and not only took hours, but it would freeze during the upgrade and now i cant even start ubuntu unless in recovery mode. Only reason i can think of is a proprietary driver, AMD graphics driver. ANy suggestions?

These sorts of problems can be difficult. It could be anything from hardware (ram, power supply, video driver, wireless) to a bug in X or the kernel. Try booting an older kernel, test your ram, and look at wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze – bodhi.zazen Jan 19 '12 at 21:14
Sounds like you are using open source ati drivers to me. Kernel mode setting can cause this behavior. – RolandiXor Jan 19 '12 at 21:26
This question should instead be filed as a bug report, thanks! Instructions here. – Jorge Castro Feb 4 '12 at 19:59
