My 10.04 was in "Ubuntu 10.04 is running on low graphics mode". I searched for help in the net. Some said to delete xorg and nvidia, I did. But that made it worse. Before I deleted it the command sudo apt-get update was no longer working. My laptop has only one hard drive and I dont know what "partition" means.

So I decided to upgrade to 11.10 I selected the option that my files would not be deleted and ubuntu will upgrade. When the upgrade finished I found out all my files were gone. Please help me recover my files.

Do you have a duplicate home directory for your account? To see that please open the file browser Nautilus. Go to File System -> home. – Takkat Jan 18 at 7:20
