Without fail, Banshee hangs and turns dark for a few seconds every single time it starts up for the first time. Using 11.10.

After the first few days of my 11.10 installation, Banshee didn't do that. (Could it be clashing with some other installed application? I have Zim Notes and Weather Indicator and System Monitor Indicator added.)

Why does this happen and how can it be fixed?

(On a related note, Banshee refuses to start up if my iPhone is already plugged in. It opens and then immediately closes. The workaround, I've found, is to unplug my iPhone and then start up Banshee, followed by plugging in my iPhone, which seems to keep Banshee from not crashing.)

I have also noticed that Banshee becomes unresponsive when I ask it to do some heavy lifting. For example, I have the mirage extension, and when I tell it to find similar songs, it takes a few seconds before I can do anything else, as if finding similar songs and UI was in one single thread... – Shawn Feb 29 '12 at 3:44

I had a similar problem with Banshee crashin all the time. I solved the problem by deleting the .banshee folder in Home and resetting from scratch. The problem didn't recur.

From your description, I would guess that this is the time it takes to initialize banshee, e.g. load the db, create the inface etc. So it is normal and expected. The developers might have chosen another implementation that would still be responsive in the startup phase, but then you would still not have been able to actually use banshee until all initialization tasks have been finished in other threads or processes.

If you think that the banshee behaviour is not normal or has been different in the past, then you might have to add more information to your question.
