Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

This is being a nagging problem since early releases. wireless connection never succeeds when laptop is taken in a lab environment where 100+ SSIDs are being beacon'd all the time.

The scan from the command "sudo iwlist wlan0 scan" gives "scan failed; argument list is long"

even on 11.10, the above problem is observed

I suggest filing a bug report. This might be a bug with a variable bounding overflog. Can you check if the problem also persists in other distribution (e.g. Fedora, Suse, Mandriva)? – Michael K Jan 5 '12 at 9:30
This is across distributions, I guess? But, I have being using mostly ubuntu installations. – Srivatsa Kanchi Jan 6 '12 at 6:31
You can just file the bug report on the ubuntu launchpad. They will help to diagnose the problem and if it is really a bug they will assign the correct persons to it or forward it to the developers of the malfunctioning software. – Michael K Jan 6 '12 at 10:28
