I installed Ubuntu last night and was extremely happy with how fast and smooth it is compared to the Windows 7 Professional I had on it before. I checked for updates and there were 273 waiting for me! I clicked on Install Updates and let it do it's thing.

Half way through them, I heard the noise that the netbook makes when you unplug the power cord. Since then, it hasn't been able to detect the power supply and has been running off the battery since.

Is there a Ubuntu update that would interfere with this?

This sounds like a bug. It is highly unlikely however, that an update would trigger this. See if your netbook charges when it's off. –  RolandiXor Dec 16 '11 at 14:05

It's off right now. No signs of charging. :( –  confusedstudent Dec 16 '11 at 14:21

then it is not a software problem. You probably have a problem with the hardware. –  RolandiXor Dec 16 '11 at 16:00

Thanks for your support guys. Turning to Acer support for this one! I purchased this netbook just a couple months ago so it's still under warranty. –  confusedstudent Dec 17 '11 at 3:13
