Coming to Ubuntu 11.10 from Windows 7, I'm used to blindly hitting Windows-L to lock the screen before I get up from the computer.

On Ubuntu, I've gotten used to the Control-Alt-L shortcut, but I find that sometimes I have to try the shortcut 2-3 times before it actually locks.

This is also the case with some other shortcuts - I've noticed it with Ctrl-Alt- to switch between workspaces.

Is there anything I can do to make the key shortcuts more reliable?

I've never heard of anything like that. Keyboard shortcuts have never been a problem on any of my setups. If you open a guest session, do you still experience the issue? Are you able to predict when it's going to happen and reproduce it? – Jo-Erlend Schinstad Dec 10 '11 at 5:42
