The triangle icons that indicate ascending/descending order in columns in all kind of lists (e.g. files listed in Nautilus or messages listed in Thunderbird, etc), are reversed in Ubuntu (with respect to the prevailing convention and common sense, not to mention plain logic). This has been discussed extensively but unfortunately, this hasn't been fixed in Ubuntu 11.10. As far as I understand gnome has been replaced by unity, but it suffers from the same issue.

I don't want to raise the discussion here about which convention is the right one. Please assume I want to reverse it on my system, whether I am right or not.

My guess is that there must be some image files somewhere with these icons (maybe multiple version of different sizes?), so if only I knew where they are and how they are called, I could just rename them and swap them. Is that right? Does anybody know where they are?

Or is it more complicated than that?

thanks m.
