Hi i install ubuntu for the very first time sorry if this is noob question. i boot from usb and i chose install on hard disk with existing OS. I got windows XP pro. So after that lot of letters come out like when you boot normally in windows and hits the ubuntu dot loading display. After it gets completed its followed by a black screen and nothing happens. I left it for 10 minutes.

Any advice?

Try running from live usb. If it loads to black screen here as well, it may be a graphics driver problem.

On your live usb selection screen just out of BIOS, you should be able to hit F6 and select the 'nomodeselect' option. Then, install normally.
