I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 I have an ATI HD 5830 card connected to a receiver capable of DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD

I would have the following issues/questions - how can I set up Ubuntu to play mkv files with DTS-HD sound bitstreamed to the receiver (so no decoding, just pass-through via HDMI) - in Windows I do this with ffdshow/MPC-HC combo - generally mkv playback is choppy (should not be with dual core 3.2Ghz CPU and the ATI card) - how can I output mulitchannel high resolution (96kHz/24bit) FLAC files? (of course without downgrading them to stereo 44kHz) - in Windows I do this with foobar2000/WASAPI output plugin - how to play BluRay discs with bitsreaming the HD audio content?

Your answers would be highly appreciated Many thanks

In your Sound Options, have you set the sound card output to what you want? (click the speaker icon, top right, to access) Select the Hardware tab and make sure this is set to what you need. – Tom Brossman Dec 4 '11 at 11:51
