I was trying to take a backup of a folder that contains certain files to my external hard disk. I have an input-output error, and now a couple of files are missing from the folder.

This happened to me a week back also. I am using a Freeagent GoFlex drive on Ubuntu 10.04. Is there anyway to prevent it from happening again?

I/O errors are not normal issues. Are you sure that this drive is physically healty? – heartsmagic Nov 29 '11 at 14:37
Running badblocks gave me 9 badblocks.. – Krishna Dec 31 '11 at 16:08
Krishna, are you still looking for an answer for this? This problem seems hardware related, bad sectors can be the cause for lost files and the best recommendation probably is to save all the remaining files to a new disk as soon as possible. Please drop a comment explaining the status of this issue. – Bruno Pereira Mar 8 '12 at 9:32
