My graphics card is Intel Graphics 3000 HD, and when I plug in my 1080p Monitor via HDMI it only comes up as 1024 x 768 for some reason?

usually this issue is seen when the X-Server actually uses the default VESA driver, which is capable of at most 1024x768 resolution. Please try to reinstall / reconfigure your graphics driver package or the xorg-package using the command dpkg-reconfigure. This might already help. – Michael K Nov 29 '11 at 10:32
