Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M645-S4050, and I bought a Bluetooth dongle a while back (my computer has no internal Bluetooth) before I installed Ubuntu. In the top toolbar where the Bluetooth icon is displayed (with mail, battery, time, etc.), it shows that Bluetooth is active. I had it working for a while (and even then it wouldn't find my phone), but now when I go to the Bluetooth settings page to connect, it says Bluetooth is inactive.

Hello and welcome to Ask Ubuntu! Can you please post the output of lspci -v? This will show what usb devices you have connected to your computer. Knowing what adapter you have will help to better diagnose the problem. –  William Nov 28 '11 at 2:43
