I am a new user converted from Windows XP. I have a few issues after install of 11.10 which has been affecting my computer.

First, while online my computer froze and then showed me a black screen. Had to reboot. After reboot seemed to work until I went into settings and tried to change my screen resolution and screen blacked out. I then rebooted and went to black screen.

I reinstalled 11.10 and updates. It works now so far yet haven't hit the black screen of death.

Second problem, I was online on imdb.com attempting to watch a trailer, computer froze and heard sound but picture froze which caused the computer to freeze and had to reboot. Lastly screen seems dimmer than when had windows installed and I have no clue how to brighten it.

My computer is an Hp/Compaq NC6120
It came with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with up to 128MB shared system memory.

This is my first time using linux and have absolutely no clue. I was somewhat an advanced Windows user, now feel like a teenager attempting to learn again.

Can someone please help me resolve these issues?
Any suggestions on where I can find a user manual for Ubuntu?

That sounds like a hardware related issue, of which it would be so relevant to have the information about your equipment. I hope you have at least upgraded the RAM, The information here: h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12136_na/12136_na.html reads this equipment is capable for 2GB the most. But if you are using the stock 256MB, with 128MB Shared for the GPU then you are in a problem, maybe you are trying to use the new system which is a lot demanding. Do you mind including the how did you tune your system up information? – Geppettvs D'Constanzo Nov 25 '11 at 22:02
