I installed Ubuntu 11.10 3 days ago using the "install from windows" function on my PC. I haven't done much yet except for using firefox. Meanwhile I experienced 3 kernel panics, uncountable freezes, frequent reboots and problems with losing control of both mouse and keyboard. A windows 7 test- version was pre- installed on the PC and it's still there. The PC is an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 4600+x2 64 bit. I'm a tech dummy and have no previous Ubuntu or Linux experience, so I'd appreciate help that takes that into account :-)

Did you check the update manager for updates? Please, check if there's any update available, update your system and let me know if it's still occurring. In the meantime, can you post here the output of the command:
If you dont know how to install pastebinit, please, open a terminal and type:
And type your password when it asks for it. Regards |

Thanks everyone who tried helping me on this. Meanwhile, I solved the problem. I deinstalled both Windos 7 and the Ubuntu 11.10 version running within and did a clean and pure 11.10 install from CD. Everything runs smoothly now, not a single panic or freeze in more than a week. So, whatever caused that problem, it was not hardware related. |

dmesgoutput as well (that'll be big though, so post it on a code sharing site, installing and usingpastebinitas mentioned in the answer will probably be easiest -dmesg | pastebinit). – Kevin Nov 22 '11 at 20:40
