Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My problem is that when I boot the system with both monitors connected the system slows down. Moving the mouse around is running at an exceptionally low frame rate, as if something else is running in the background but $top doesn't show anything.

The funny thing is that when i boot up with only a single monitor connected, log in, then connect the second monitor, run the nvidia-settings -> detect display , run twin view everything works fine!

It's driving me crazy because every time I restart I have to make sure to disconnect the monitor from the card then restart and run the nvidia-settings again.

Info:

  • Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit
  • nvidia quadro with the latest drivers

voting to superuser. Meanwhile, add the differences in /var/log/Xorg.0.log both times around. My guess is that it's picking up a different driver – sehe Nov 21 '11 at 15:49
sorry to ask a stupid question but what do you mean by "add the differences in ..., both times around."? – janjust Nov 21 '11 at 15:58
