I am new with Linux and I need help. I installed Linux on a 10 year old Dell Inspiron and did this through wubi. I also downloaded the updates from the Internet. Now I am trying to start Linux and I get to a text screen which asks me to put a word. I am lost here. I tab for help and tried all of command for a help line but nothing moves or changes. Whatever command I write it comes with a no kernel loaded message.

What is the complete and exact text of what it is asking you? – Eliah Kagan Nov 20 '11 at 20:00

We need the following information: Ubuntu version you are using, at least a image of a more exact knowledge of where you are seeing the problem. For what I understood you are not even loading the kernel and you might be in the grub terminal but you might also be not loading a gui so you might be in the terminal that appears after a problem does not let you load the gui. I any case an image or a more exact idea could help. Remember to add the ubuntu version you are using. – Luis Alvarado Nov 20 '11 at 20:13
When you end up at a grub prompt, it's usually because of this: ubuntu-with-wubi.blogspot.com/2011/08/missing-rootdisk.html – bcbc Nov 20 '11 at 23:33
