I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and using Unity. I have a bunch of applications open, including Empathy. When I hit alt+tab I can switch between all of the applications, and the "show desktop" option, but not Empathy. (When I'm alt+tabbing I don't see an icon for Empathy.) How can I alt+tab to Empathy?

(If I do shift+alt+up_arrow (Expo for current desktop) I can see Empathy and select it by clicking on it.)

The problem has gone away; I can now alt+tab to Empathy. (I did an update this morning so possibly there was something in there that fixed it.) –  cpc Nov 17 '11 at 23:32

It sounds like empathy is on another workspace from the one you are currently on. I have Unity 2D enabled for speed so maybe the behaviour is different with Unity 3D, but when I alt-tab I can only cycle through applications in that workspace while crtl-alt-up shows the four workspaces and the applications on each workspace. This is intentional behaviour.

No, Empathy is on the same workspace as the other applications. I'm running Unity 3D. I observe different alt-tab behaviour than you do. Alt-tab shows all open applications (except for Empathy) for all workspaces. –  cpc Nov 17 '11 at 12:32
