I am using MSI U100 netbook with Intel atom processor. While I am playing HD videos in Ubuntu, frames freeze sometimes. At the same time, I am able to play the video smoothly in Windows 7. Can anyone advise how to play HD video smoothly and which is the best video player for HD?

I also have this netbook with Ubuntu installed. This is not Ubuntu's fault. Especially streaming video it struggles with. The intel atom processor is not powerful enough for this task. If you are having problems playing YouTube videos, I recommend downloading them and playing them in VLC or Movie Player.

May be, but I am humbly not agree with the opinion that it is Atom processor issue. If the same video can be rendered in Windows 7 with good quality, why Atom processor cannot play with that much smoothness in Ubuntu. I also observed VLC's performance varies in Ubuntu and Windows.VLC's HD playback is not so smooth like that in Windows. – Vivek S Panicker Nov 17 '11 at 7:08

which gpu you use? Intel? then it is quite possible in linux. However you can try SMplayer.
