Any idea why this wont work? I am on Ubuntu 11.10 on my home computer and at work. Both stopped working after upgrading to 11.10. It used to work before but not anymore.

Correct - it doesn't work.

Looked for any current Launchpad bug on, didn't find so filed new https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/890549
