I created a new partition for ubuntu which is around 9 gb. Out of that at least 4 gb is still free but ubuntu displays that only 150mb left. System Monitor shows that 150 mb is left in root (/) directory and around 4gb free in (/host) directory. How do I use that host directory for saving my files? Please help

Assuming the existence of /host the OP probably uses Wubi. – ObsessiveSSOℲ Jun 7 '12 at 23:12

To use "/host", you'll can use "Nautilus" file manager and go to root file system. Then you'll find there /host folder, which you can use for whatever you want. You can also make a symlink to the folder dragging it with "alt" pressed to the chosen location (Desktop). It is not usually wise to have only 5GB for the Ubuntu file system, therefore I strongly recommend you to enlarge that partition using liveCD and "Gparted".
