Open a terminal and execute :
lspci -k | grep -EA2 'VGA|3D'
Output shows something like :

Kernel driver in use: i915

Now you can see all the graphics drivers currently being in use.
In case it does not show Kernel driver in use: nvidia

Install the NVIDIA drivers and Optimus support - execute :
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-352 nvidia-prime
sudo reboot
Update adressing your response that you have issues with the drivers :
Step 1 : Uninstall every NVIDIA related software that is currently installed.
Highlight the Ubuntu entry in the GRUB boot menu and press the E key.
Add nouveau.modeset=0
to the end of the linux line - press F10 to boot.
On the login screen press Ctrl+Alt+F1
Enter user name and password - execute :
sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
sudo reboot
Step 2 : Install the latest official NVIDIA drivers that support NVIDIA 820M.
Highlight the Ubuntu entry in the GRUB boot menu and press the E key.
Add nouveau.modeset=0
to the end of the linux line - press F10 to boot.
On the login screen press Ctrl+Alt+F1
Enter user name and password - execute :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nvidia-361 nvidia-prime
sudo reboot
lspci | grep 3D
