Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I know there are a lot of question about this, but I couldn't find any answer.

I have a custom desktop PC in which I can send the system to sleep / hibernate without apparently any problems. However, when I want to wake it up, it fails.

If I suspended:

-The fans start working and the power LED gets on (i.e. it's waking up) but rapidly goes off. After a few seconds, sort of tries to wake up again, with the same result. This to the infinite. -The display (via DVI) doesn't get any input (not even black). -The mouse and keyboard (both USB) don't get power.

So I can't do anything more than press the power button for a long time and power off the hard way.

If I hibernated: -It gets to grub without any problem but, after selecting Ubuntu, it crashes and restarts. However, sometimes does wake up.

After one of those crashes, I got this message from the motherboard: "Overclocking failed! Enter setup to reconfigure your system"

I have:

  • Processor: Intel i5 2400
  • Asus p8p67 LE
  • Gigabyte nvidia GTS 450

Hope you can help me

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Sorry! Silly me, I forgot the most important info: I am running a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 64 bits.

Well, I didn't know if it was a bug or it was related with my motherboard config (I'm still not sure, actually). – Cmorales Feb 2 '12 at 13:39

This looks like that one of your ACPI settings is not correct. Set it to S3 and see whether it helps. I am not sure if this is the right solution, but many of hibernation issues are caused by this. If you have "wake on lan" turned on, turn it of and see if that helps, too. I hope that will solve your issue.

Edit: Someone here has the same issue. Keep an eye on there too :)

Where should I edit that S3 thing? (sorry for the probably silly question) Thanks for your answer! – Cmorales Dec 15 '11 at 23:19
