Possible Duplicate:
Where is the X.org config file? How do I configure X there?

[Edit] Thanks for everyone's input there though but this thread is indeed a duplicate. See comments bellow

I am very new to Ubuntu, and i am having problem with configurating my graphic drivers.

After digging solutions on how to solve that issue i noticed that the xorg.conf file is refered to very often though my system doesn't have one.

I looked in /etc/x11/ nothing there.

Is this normal ? Should i create one to fine tune my monitors configuration? If so how to proceed to create that file ?

Thanks a bunch for any insights

Depends on your graphics driver.

Most systems now a days don't require a xorg.conf file anymore and will run perfectly. xorg.conf are useful if you are trying to adjust things like multiple monitors, dual graphics in the same system, etc.

For the rest of us common ppl, just ignore it and if possible (and present) when needed use your drivers tools to build the xorg.conf, having it edited by hand can have some weird results!

That s exactly what i am trying to do : ) I can't manage to have my dual monitor to work proprely on hybrid GPU (intel/amd). I was hoping to find solution in xorg.conf file, by maybe having the AMD card do all the work for both screens – silkAdmin Oct 24 '11 at 10:19
@silkAdmin If you're confident in your knowledge, you're welcome to create the xorg.conf file. – Oxwivi Oct 24 '11 at 10:26
unfurtunatly hybrids are still a bit tricky. you wont be able to solve it with xorg.conf editing :( have a look around the site, there are many open questios already about this and 1 or 2 half solutions. – Bruno Pereira Oct 24 '11 at 10:32
@Oxwivi i am not it s why i am asking here.. Maybe you have a better solution to contribute ? – silkAdmin Oct 24 '11 at 10:40
@brunopereira81 Well i am just making wild guesses here but it seems to me that each monitors are tying to use different cards, so i was hoping to force them to use the same card. Would Xorg allow me to do that ? – silkAdmin Oct 24 '11 at 10:42
