I have an Ubuntu 15.10 installation with onboard Intel Graphics and an nVidia graphics card that I am trying to setup in a multiseat environment using udev/loginctl.

Although I get the output in the primary intel server (seat0), the other seat (seat-1) with nvidia refuses to start. Relevant config and log files are attached.

I have tried both the nouveau and the nvidia binary drivers. Nouveau driver segfaults and the nvidia driver just refuses to be recognised by the server.

I am following the instructions given here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MultiseatTeam/Instructions https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia

Remove the seat0 udev rules. All devices without a rule are attached to seat0.

For seat1 create the next udev rule:

SUBSYSTEM=="pci", DEVPATH=="/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:05.0/0000:02:00.0", TAG+="seat", TAG+="master-of-seat", ENV{ID_AUTOSEAT}="1", ENV{ID_SEAT}="seat1"

replace /devices/pci0000... with your nvidia card

reboot or trigger udev

Use

sudo loginctl attach seat1 /sys/devices/pci0000....

to attach your graphic card, keyboard, and mouse to seat1

Create a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d for the nvidia card:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d$ cat 20-nvidia.conf
Section "Device"
    Identifier "Seat1"
    Driver "nvidia"
    BusID "PCI:3:0:0"
    Option "ProbeAllGpus" "FALSE"
    MatchSeat "seat1"
EndSection

Success,

Floris

  • For some reason, the nvidia driver/kernel module is not being picked up. The server always starts with the nouveau driver. But it is in the blacklist installed by the nvidia driver. My card is: NVIDIA Corporation NV44 [GeForce 7100 GS] I did: $ apt-get install nvidia-current which installed nvidia-304 which is what ubuntu-devices recommends for my hardware. But lsmod | grep video states: video 24576 2 i915,nouveau Thanks for all your help
