gedit <filename> in terminal does not work. I'm getting messages:

** (gedit:2288): WARNING **: Failed to call gedit service: Timeout was reached
** (gedit:2301): CRITICAL **: _gedit_app_get_window_in_viewport: assertion `GEDIT_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed

Was the UID of the user running gedit the same as the owner of the display? what was the value of $DISPLAY? – waltinator Oct 20 '11 at 7:17
