I'm trying to install Xubuntu on my ThinkPAD T410 using a few, erm, special options.

First off, I'm booting alongside Windows and Arch Linux. That's not really a problem in and of itself, but it does create a problem when you consider that...

...second off, I'm using the Syslinux bootloader because I don't like the old GRUB and I really don't like the newer GRUB2.

So my hard disk layout is a Windows partition at the top, a /boot used for Syslinux and Arch's /boot partition, a space for Xubuntu, a swap, and the root / partition for Arch.

So then:

  1. How do I get Xubuntu's installer to install a regular partition and yet have it use the existing /boot for its boot partition, but not have it overwrite the stuff in /boot?

  2. How do I get Xubuntu's installer to not install a bootloader so that I can continue using Syslinux? I remember there used to be a "don't install bootloader" option in the old installers but it seems to not exist anymore...

Thanks!
