Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've recently updated from 9.10 to 10.04 LTS. I can't reformat a 2nd drive through the Dsk Utility 2.30.1. It fails with a "Need authorization" message but it does not give me a password window.

I had a similar problem with the Ubuntu Software Center but I found a solution to that particular problem but I can't find a particular solution to this one.

I've read mean posts from many sources and I can't see a global solution. Note I never had any problems with authorizations, etc., with 9.10, which was a clean install.
