im tottaly new in ubuntu.i have hp pavillion dv6 3035et and it has two graphics cards in it (one of them is ati hd5650 and other is onboard intel) and i couldnt install a driver even one of them.first,i had ubuntu 11.04,it was nice when first installed, compiz and unity worked.but it also sometimes freezed with a black screen when booting.then i installed ati fglrx in the additional drivers section.and it has caused dissappearance of compiz and unity.it was ok,before i installed ubuntu 11.10,unity appeared again (no compiz again) ,i tried to install fglrx in additional drivers but i saw there are two additional drivers (there were one in ubuntu 11.04 ) and when i tried to install second one,it gave an error.so in the end,i got a slow unity,no compiz, when i looked in system information,it says no graphics cards in it.so what do i have to do? i tried to installing ati drivers manually in amd website too.none of them worked.(when i try to open catalyst control center,it also gives an error)

Check if you're lucky to have a BIOS setting, but I'm guessing you don't.

Refer to my answer in

HP Pavilion dv7 Graphics Driver

You might have to use the radeon open source driver. fglrx is currently buggy.

Whilst this may theoretically answer the question, it would be preferable to include the essential parts of the answer here, and provide the link for reference. – Anwar Aug 2 '12 at 11:02

When u check your system info, it says no graphic card or graphic card unknown? If it is graphic card unknown, open up a terminal and type $ sudo apt-get install mesa-utils. I believe it will show that you are using intel sandy bridge mobile, if you have no ati driver install. To properly install ati driver, follow this
