Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free.

This is somewhat annoying. I have an old laptop and the screen on it is shot, so now I have an old monitor hooked up and it works fine. Before the upgrade I had it set so that when i closed the lid on the laptop everything would shutdown or suspend, when I lift the lid, everything would come back. Now, however, when i close the lid nothing happens, when i open the lid the screen flashes black and comes back. I have it set so that it should suspend when i close the lid. It's confusing...

@brunopereira81 ... Yeah, I am dutch... So what? Not going to put my system in English, reboot, take a screenshot of the window, put it back in dutch againb, and reboot again just to answer a simple question ;) There's no rule here that states that only English screenshots are allowed, and noone would've had a problem with it if I simply didn't post the screenshot. So be glad I did the effort. – RobinJ Oct 15 '11 at 11:31
the effort is appreciated and a quick look for a image that all can understand will give this answer all it's full potential. Its really fast to look for an image that has the contents that you are looking for. – Bruno Pereira Oct 15 '11 at 11:38
I already saw you were Dutch in your profile. – RobinJ Oct 15 '11 at 11:51
That's the difference between a Q&A and a forum in general... A Q&A is supposed to be serious... – RobinJ Oct 15 '11 at 16:02
Really dont have time for this, if you want to play serious at least put your answers on a language all understand. – Bruno Pereira Oct 15 '11 at 16:52

Here' is a English version of the screen shot that @RobinJ provided in his answer.

As of Ubuntu 12.04, "hibernate" is no longer available as an option when the power is critically low. – Anderson Green Oct 3 '12 at 18:05
